Dr Trinh evaluated my problem wisdom tooth and offered to extract it immediately. The biggest pain was the painkilling shots, and there was a lot of effort involved. All over with quickly. Home care instructions were in writing and very thorough. Everyone was very nice.

I went to Dr Trinh with tooth ache. He took an X-ray and told me I had an infection in that tooth. He was so through and made sure I understood what he would need to about this tooth. He did an extraction that day. He called me the that night to make sure I was doing well. He gave me a detailed paper of what to do and what not to do. That was very helpful. Dr Trinh and his staff are so helpful, kind and friendly. I would highly recommend Dr Trinh and his staff!!!

I just had my second visit at their office to discuss my upcoming teeth extraction. I will be having an implant and I'm so excited about it. All I have are praises to the whole staff of Dr. Drake. Of course, I also must mention Dr. Drake himself. He went over again the process of my dental needs to be sure that I understand everything. He took his time to explain it to me again which gives me comfort. From my first visit experience, I realized I don't need to look further for a dental office that will take care of me. I found it here!

Dr. Drake has installed two implants for me, as well as extracting a 3rd tooth last week. If you must have it done, he is great to work with, very friendly, genuinely sensitive to what you're feeling, and he has a great sense of humor. I actually enjoy going to him for treatment! The staff are friendly, too, and they work well as a team to help you stay calm and feel reassured. Going on 3 years now, my implants are fine. I'm sure at my age there are more in the future. I've highly recommended Dr. Drake to friends and family!

Surgical Experience That Guides Every Case

Dr. Drake Exstrom provides oral and maxillofacial surgery with a focus on careful planning, patient comfort, and long-term function in full-arch implant treatment. His approach centers on doing what is necessary to create a stable foundation while avoiding unnecessary procedures whenever possible.

From consultation through recovery, care is delivered with clear communication and a steady, thoughtful approach designed to support predictable healing.

What Are Full-Arch Dental Implants?

Full-arch dental implants are used to replace an entire upper or lower arch of teeth using dental implants for support. Rather than replacing each missing tooth individually, a strategic number of implants are placed to anchor a full-arch prosthetic.

This approach helps restore chewing function and stability while reducing the movement and limitations commonly associated with traditional dentures.

Full-Arch Implant Systems

Full-arch treatment is not one-size-fits-all. Several types of implant-supported prosthetics may be used depending on oral health, anatomy, and treatment goals

All-on-4®

All-on-4, also known as Teeth-in-a-Day, uses four dental implants placed in strategic positions, including angled implants in the back of the jaw. This angled placement helps maximize existing bone and allows a fixed, full-arch prosthetic to be supported with fewer implants.

For upper arch treatment, the prosthetic is typically designed without full palate coverage, which can improve comfort, speech, and taste for many patients.

All-on-X

All-on-X refers to full-arch implant systems that use a variable number of implants based on bone quality and treatment goals. Like All-on-4, implants may be placed at an angle to improve stability and support while avoiding anatomical structures.

This approach commonly supports a fixed prosthetic that may not require full palate coverage in upper arch cases, depending on restorative design.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are full-arch prosthetics secured to dental implants for increased stability. Depending on the design, upper implant-supported dentures may include some palate coverage to provide additional support.

Implant-Retained Dentures

Implant-retained dentures attach to dental implants but can be removed for cleaning. Upper implant-retained dentures often include palate coverage similar to traditional dentures.

Full-Arch Implant Placement Process

Full-arch implant treatment is completed in stages and tailored to each patient’s anatomy and restorative plan.

  1. Surgical planning: Advanced imaging and diagnostic tools are used to plan implant positioning based on the type of full-arch system being used. This planning helps determine implant number, placement, and overall surgical approach before treatment begins.
  2. Implant placement: Dental implants are surgically placed into the jawbone according to the treatment plan. In some situations, bone grafting may be recommended to improve implant support.
  3. Temporary prosthetic (when appropriate): In certain full-arch cases, a temporary denture or provisional prosthetic may be placed at the time of surgery. This allows patients to leave with a functional set of teeth while the implants continue to heal beneath the surface.
  4. Healing and integration: After surgery, the implants are allowed to heal and stabilize within the jawbone. This healing phase supports long-term strength and function and typically occurs over several months.
  5. Final prosthetic attachment: Once healing is complete, the final full-arch prosthetic is secured. This prosthetic is designed for long-term function, comfort, and durability.

Recovery and Healing

Recovery after full-arch implant surgery varies depending on the number of implants placed and whether additional procedures are involved. Mild swelling and soreness are common in the initial days following surgery.

In appropriate cases, platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) may be used to support healing. PRF is created from the patient’s own blood and placed at the surgical site to help promote natural tissue repair.

Healing time typically ranges from three to six months, allowing the implants to fully integrate with the jawbone. Clear aftercare instructions and ongoing support are provided throughout the healing process.

Did You Know?

Advanced Planning for Full-Arch Implants

Successful full-arch treatment depends on accurate planning and implant positioning. Advanced imaging and X-Guide technology are used to support precise, real-time guidance during implant placement based on the prosthetic being attached. This level of planning helps support comfort, stability, and long-term outcomes.

Why Choose an Oral Surgeon for Full Arch Dental Implants?

Full-arch implant surgery requires precise coordination between implant placement and the design of the final prosthetic. Surgical decisions related to bone support, implant positioning, and anatomy play an important role in how well a full-arch restoration functions over time.

Dr. Drake Exstrom has advanced training in implant surgery and experience managing complex full-arch cases. His approach emphasizes careful planning, minimally invasive techniques when appropriate, and patient-specific decision-making to support predictable outcomes and comfortable healing.

FAQs

Who is a good candidate for full arch dental implants?

Patients missing most or all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw may be candidates for full arch dental implants. Candidacy depends on factors such as bone quality, oral health, and overall medical history, which are evaluated during a consultation.

Can I get full arch dental implants if I have had dentures for years?

Many patients who have worn dentures for years pursue full arch dental implants. Previous denture use does not automatically disqualify someone from treatment, although additional procedures may be needed if significant bone loss has occurred.

What are the benefits of full arch dental implants compared to dentures?

Full arch dental implants provide improved stability and support compared to traditional dentures. They also provide a less bulky prosthesis in your mouth and allow for your palate to be exposed which improves in taste compared to traditional dentures.  Because they are anchored to dental implants, they can feel more secure during eating and speaking and may help reduce ongoing bone changes associated with tooth loss.
