Jaw Surgery
Corrected jaw surgery is a transformative procedure that can address a range of dental and skeletal issues, including misaligned jaws, bite problems, and facial asymmetry
Corrected Jaw Surgery (Orthognathic Surgery)
Corrected jaw surgery involves surgically repositioning the upper jaw (maxilla), lower jaw (mandible), or both to achieve improved alignment and function. This procedure is often recommended for patients with severe bite misalignments that cannot be corrected with orthodontic treatment alone.
Treatment Planning
In conjunction with your orthodontist, Dr. Drake and our team will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to assess your oral health, facial structure, and jaw alignment. We will work closely with you and your orthodontist to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals.
The Corrected Jaw Surgery Process
The benefits of corrected jaw surgery may include improved bite and orofacial health, airway/sleep apnea, facial form and in some cases speech articulation. The procedure may involve repositioning the jawbones, reshaping the facial bones, or addressing other structural issues to achieve optimal facial balance and function.
The surgery is performed with the patient asleep under general anesthesia typically on average lasts between 2-5 hours. Following surgery, your teeth will be held together with rubber bands (most commonly) or with wires and you will be on a liquid diet for the first 2 weeks. Rest assured that Dr. Drake has had many patients undergo this procedure and has helped them through the process every step of the way!
