TMJ

Welcome to Offshore Oral & Facial Surgery, where we are dedicated to providing comprehensive dental care, including expert management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. TMJ disorders can cause a range of symptoms, including jaw pain, clicking or popping sounds, difficulty chewing, and headaches. If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, you’re not alone, and we’re here to help.

Understanding TMJ Disorders

The temporomandibular joint is a complex joint that connects your jawbone to your skull. TMJ disorders can arise from various factors, including teeth grinding, stress, jaw misalignment, arthritis, or muscle tension. Understanding the underlying causes of your TMJ symptoms is crucial for effective treatment.

Evaluation and Diagnosis

At Offshore Oral & Facial Surgery, Dr. Drake begins by conducting a comprehensive evaluation to assess your TMJ symptoms and their potential causes. This evaluation will begin with an in depth history of your unique situation and then include a thorough examination of your jaw, jaw muscles, bite analysis, and possible diagnostic imaging to determine the extent of your TMJ disorder.

Customized Treatment Plans

Once Dr. Drake has identified the underlying factors contributing to your TMJ disorder, a personalized treatment plan will be tailored to your unique needs. Treatment options may include lifestyle modifications, stress management techniques, oral appliances, botox injections, or physical therapy

Botox Injections

Previously Dr. Drake worked as a TMJ specialist at Kaiser Medical Group in Oakland, CA providing unique care to those suffering from TMJ pain. A portion of that treatment was providing botox injections to the muscles surrounding the TMJ. Botox injections are a non-surgical approach to treating TMJ disorder that involves injecting BOTOX into the facial muscles to ease tension and discomfort when other measures are not improving symptoms. The relaxing effects of these injections often last about 3-4 months

At Offshore Oral & Facial Surgery, we believe in empowering our patients with the knowledge and resources they need to manage their TMJ symptoms effectively. We’ll take the time to educate you about your condition, explain your treatment options, and provide ongoing support throughout your journey to better oral health.
